THE SIGNATURE THIS IS FUNTUA TEE

In the second phase of our “GROW WILD GROW FREE” campaign, we present a new THIS IS FUNTUA signature tee and tunic, thoughtful reminders of our origins.

Grown and processed in Funtua, Katsina state, the cotton fabric (proudly name after its town of origin) is a testament to our homegrown ethos — a belief that Nigerian made can be of the highest quality. From farmers who grow the cotton plant to ginneries that extract seeds from cotton wool, and the textile mill that processes cotton wool into woven fabric, all within a 52 mile radius, the work of communities around Funtua cotton is truly special and one that continues to give us pride. 

When we were first introduced to Funtua, we wanted to proclaim it to everyone at home and abroad and encourage people to use it, and so we designed the Funtua tee, a loose fitting take on the classic tshirt silhouette drawing inspiration from the traditional danshiki. On the shirt we printed boldly “THIS IS FUNTUA NIGERIAN MADE COTTON”.

Today, 99 percent of our own products are made from the fabric, and we have seen growth in demand for it among other Nigerian brands. We couldn’t be prouder of our nation and the work of our collective hands.

Our new THIS IS FUNTUA drop features embroidery of signature handwritten text “This is Funtua Nigerian made Cotton” on our classic tee constructed with our heritage Hausa states print, as well as a new tunic shirt, also made with the Hausa states print. For a clean minimal look, the tunic comes in ivory, with an almost imperceptible embroidery of the same text.
