The cotton is grown
No two pieces are the same.
The dye pits at Kofar Mata have been worked continuously for more than five centuries, since 1498. Colour is not printed on, it is built up. Cloth goes into the pit, comes out, oxidises in the air, and goes back in. Depth is a function of how many times, and for how long, up to about eight hours.
Which is why a hand dyed piece cannot be reordered exactly. Drag the dip counter and watch what the dyers are actually controlling.

Natural indigo keeps moving after it leaves us. It softens, it settles, and it deepens where you wear it most. Every six months we run a re-dye drive, so a piece that has faded can go back to the pit instead of the bin.

One honest caveat: every piece is hand dyed, so slight unevenness and variation in shade are part of the cloth, not a fault, and are not grounds for return. Anything defective, damaged or wrong, we sort out.

There is no reprint of a hand dyed batch. The pit moves on, the weather changes, and the next run comes out its own colour. Whatever is in stock today is genuinely what exists of it.

How long will it take?
Items available in London will be delivered by Royal Mail in 2 to 3 working days. Items unavailable in London will be delivered by DHL within 10 working days.
How much will it cost?
Shipping within the UK will cost £4.99. Items shipped from Nigeria will cost £15. UK orders over £250 ship free.
Everything is sent duty paid, so there is no customs charge to settle when it arrives.
Will it look like the photograph?
Close, but not identical, and that is the point. Each piece is dipped by hand, so the depth and the pattern of the indigo shift between one garment and the next. If you need an exact colour match to something you already own, email us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether we can get near it.
How do I wash it?
Cold, gentle, separately for the first few washes, and dry out of direct sun. Natural indigo will release a little colour early on. If a favourite piece goes pale after a year or two, our re-dye drive runs every six months and it can go back into the pit rather than the bin.
What is Funtua cotton, exactly?
A long staple cotton, roughly 30 to 40mm, grown in Katsina State. The longer fibre is what gives the cloth its breathability and that loose, gauze like handle. All our products are 100% Funtua cotton.
Do you ship to the whole UK?
Yes. Pieces held in London go out by Royal Mail, anywhere in the country. Pieces coming from Lagos travel by DHL, which also covers the whole UK.
